Welcome to Bethany Cottage

Situated approximately 3 miles South West of Kirkwall, Bethany Cottage offers warm and comfortable surroundings in an idyllic setting, with panoramic views overlooking Scapa Flow and Kirbister Loch, with the Hoy Hills present in the background.

The cottage is a wooden Norwegian Fjogstad, with a veranda to the front and one side, which takes full advantage of the breathtaking scenery.

For country lovers, Bethany lends itself to bird enthusiasts, with the RSPB Bird Reserve being directly adjacent to the cottage. Waulkmill Beach is just a 15 minutes walk down the road, ideal for young children to go paddling in its shallow waters, followed by a nice picnic on any number of the large, flat faced rocks there. Fishing experts and amateurs alike can while away their time at Kirbister Loch, also within 1 mile from Bethany, where you might be lucky enough to bring a trout home for your dinner!

After a day out in the fresh Orkney air, you can retreat to the quiet home comforts Bethany has to offer. Partially wood lined, the interior is warm, light and airy with a stove effect fire in the open plan lounge area.

About the Accommodation

The cottage comfortably sleeps 4 people, with 1 double room and 1 twin room with bunk beds, that overlooks Scapa Flow. The spacious bathroom has a corner bath where you can soothe away any aches and pains acquired on long jaunts, or if you prefer, you can freshen up with a shower instead.

There is a separate utility room where you can wash your outdoor clothes, and hang them up to dry before settling down for the evening, taking in the stunning views through the Georgian Square windows.

Orkney is renowned for its long summer evenings and there really is no better place to watch the sun set, than on the veranda of Bethany, where the spectacular arrays of colour and light disappear over the Kirbister Loch and behind the Orphir Hills.

Whatever your escape, we hope the charm and appeal of Bethany Cottage will enhance your stay here on Orkney, and leave you with a lasting impression you will want to revisit time again.
